Monkeykid (JIN): Assemblyman Uthman bin-Fahd has introduced a new bill in the MRA Assembly to legalize prostitution.
In addition to legalization, the bill would mandate registration, testing, and security.
Although long tolerated in SimNation, if this bill passes, it would be the first time a regional authority has legalized the practice.
My reasons for introducing this bill are two-fold. One is to stop the hypocrisy of sims condemning practices in which they take part. Secondly, it ensures criminal elements are kept out of the MRA. Sunshine is the best disinfectant and this is an area long overdue for disinfection.
When asked for a comment, Governor Adams abstained. Under his father, the True Whig party would have opposed this bill, but the Governor is known to have a much more laissez-faire attitude when it comes to social issues.
Monkeykid (JIN): Gen. Jackson, general and commanding officer of the SimNational Legion has confirmed that his choices for command of the individual sub-legions have accepted their commissions and are to start their new assignments immediately.
Commanding the 1st sub-legion is Lt. Col. Katniss O. Sanchez. Lt. Col. Sanchez is a veteran of the the Twikkii campaigns and one of the top line officers, as an experienced armour commander. She is widely seen as the lending candidate to succeed Gen. Jackson upon his retirement.
The 2nd sub-legion is now under the command of Lt. Col. Benjamin F. Adams. Adams’ career has primarily been in logistics, where he has excelled.
In what some saw as a surprising choice, the 3rd sub-legion command was given to Lt. Col. Pollux Nova. Junior in rank to both Sanchez and Adams, Nova had been seen as a fine and up-and-coming officer, but has never seen combat and some argued he is a little too “gung-ho” to see action.
Lastly, commanding the 4th sub-legion is Lt. Col. Eliphalet Jackson. The son of the General, the outcry in what seemed like an act of pure nepotism was mitigated by the fact that there were few other officers to choose from, leaving the young, but well-liked officer a defensible choice. The command had been offered to both George Adams and Jasper Larson, but both declined and took positions in political leadership instead – Adams as Senator and Larson as Intelligence Minister.
In addition to naming his commanders, Gen. Jackson did confirm that he anticipates the 3rd sub-legion will perform a peace-keeping rotation on Twikkii Island during week nine.
Monkeykid (SNN): Last night at True Whig Headquarters, Governor Adams announced his initial cabinet appointments.
Initial speculation had been that Adams would appoint solely from within his ruling True Whig party, but showing the true principals of equity that he has long been known for, he reached across the aisles to appoint a multi-party cabinet.
Not everyone was pleased, however. Shira R. Adams, chairwoman of the RDF and leader of the opposition, commented that Adams did little other than re-appointing individuals who had served in comparable positions prior to the coup; and more importantly, it was an aged group:
While no-one doubts the service and dedication of the Governor’s selections, the simple fact is that with one exception, they are elders and shan’t be expected to serve much longer. Under the pretenses of bi-partisanship, the Governor has done little but to appoint caretakers that will allow the Whigs to consolidate their hold on the bureaucracy whilst appearing to govern without faction.
The Governor dismissed Chairwoman Adams’ concerns:
I choose the best people for the jobs at hand. Perhaps Shira is unhappy with the simple fact that the best people reject the theocratic ideology of the RDF to champion reason and knowledge.
It is hard to dispute the Governor’s assertion. Justice Minister Madison S. Jackson had long served as MKPD Chief, whilst Zondra J. bin-Fahd had served as Education Minister under the previous government.
The only neophyte is Captain Jasper Larson (SNL, ret.), who while lacking formal experience is widely admired as one of the architects of the SNL reorganization.
The nominees represent the three parties. Jackson is the wife of the Progress Party chairman. Bin-Fahd is a True Whig loyalist, while Larson is the son-in-law of one of the RDF founders.
Monkeykid (SNN): Veteran Journalist Peter Ottomas has been named by Governor Adams as Editor of the Journal-Intelligencer. The office had been vacant
Although I am not a native Monkeykidder. The town has been my home for many years and my family and I consider it home. I am humbled by this honour and shall not disappoint you. Long live Monkeykid and long live the Revolution!
The choice was seen by some as a surprise. While well-liked, Ottomas is known as a philanderer and many thought his career dead (or at least greatly harmed) by his nasty divorce and involvement in the Traveller scandal. Off the record, sources say that choosing Ottomas was a wise selection by the Governor, as he is a follower and should be expected to tow the True Whig platform and cause few, if any, problems for the new regime.
